In Tupelo (northeastern MS) where I live, the summers seem tropical—hot and humid. The winters are unpredictable. In January, the average high is 52 and average low is 32. However the temperature dropped to 5°F last winter. Average snowfall is around 2 inches per year- usually in one storm. However some winters see no snow and sometimes there is twice that much if not more.

In Jackson, around the center of the state, about an inch of snow can fall per year.
In January, the average high for the city is 55.1 and the low is 35 degrees Fahrenheit.
Towards the southern coast, snow occurs every few years. Near the hills in the North, about two inches can be expected annually.
Keep in mind the hurricane risk in the state during the summer.
