Not a lot of cooler air masses and/or winds move over tropical waters. After all, advection is the horizontal transportation of air. Overall, the necessary air type (cold & dry) rarely moves over tropical waters, and therefore the formation of advection fog rarely occurs.

Advection fog occurs either when warm air moves over a cold surface or cold air moves over a warm surface.Over tropical waters, there is not much difference in the temperature of the surface and the air above it,most of the times.Hence the advection fog is rare.
