My roommates and I have been debating this. I know it's good to have the blinds open on sunny days during the winter, but I don't think they should be open on days when it's below 50 and the sun is not shining. I think blinds can act kind of like a vent on a register. If you want the outside temp to come inside then you should have them open, if not then you should have them closed. Sure it won't stop all the hot/cold temperature from coming in if they're closed, but it seems to me that it would help.

That's totally a matter of personal preference, and not a matter important enough to waste time debating about.

At first I was going to say absolutely yes, but I forgot there are people in cold climates, where a lot of valueable warm air and money would seep out the bottom of the window. ( I live in a mostly warm area )

For the mental health of the body, it would be good to keep them open, and if you have double windows, or maybe put a towel to keep the heat from escaping it would be a good idea.

I suffer from depression, so that is the reason why I first thought of the mental health aspect of this.

However, even if you do not have depression, light is good for you.

They help stop radiant heat getting outdoors. Also they will help stop drafts if you don't have double glazing. In summer you might use them to stop the early afternoon outdoor heat getting in.
