Tides cause water levels to rise and fall. This effects boats operating in tidal waterways. Sometimes tides can range several feet. So if you can imagine you left the dock at 7 am and the water was 5 feet. You return 6 hours later and the water is 1 foot. Going to have trouble getting to the dock if you are in anything more than a canoe.
